SS Lucky was founded in 1992 by Mr. Swaran Singh as a sole proprietorship in Khari Baoli, at the heart of Delhi's dry-fruit trade.
But our family's connection to the market began earlier.
Mr. Swaran Singh's father, Late Mr. Sukha Singh Ji, worked as a broker in the Khari Baoli dry-fruit trade. Through his work in the market, he introduced his son to the trade and gave him his first connection to the people, products and workings of the business.
That experience became the foundation on which SS Lucky was built.
In 1992, Swaran Singh started SS Lucky as an independent trading business in Khari Baoli. He built the business around the things he had learned from the market: understanding the product, knowing the grades, sourcing carefully and building relationships with retailers.
What began as a trading business grew steadily through repeat business and relationships built over time.
As the business developed, SS Lucky began putting a name behind its products. At a time when much of the market was still trading in unbranded sacks, the business introduced its own branded packaging, giving retailers and customers a product they could recognise and return to.
The business also developed a defined approach to grading, sorting and maintaining consistency across consignments. These practices became part of how SS Lucky worked with retailers and how the business built its reputation in the trade.
But the business was never only about the products.
Over the years, SS Lucky grew through the people around it — employees who stayed, retailers who returned and relationships that continued from one generation to the next.
For many years, the business operated without a significant digital presence. It grew in the traditional way of Khari Baoli: through the trade, recommendations, repeat business and relationships built over time.
Today, the third generation is actively involved in SS Lucky.
The market has changed considerably since 1992. Customers discover products differently, retailers operate differently and businesses need to be accessible beyond the physical lanes of Khari Baoli.
The role of the third generation is not to change the foundations of the business.
It is to take them forward.
This website is part of that next chapter — making it easier for retailers to discover and work with SS Lucky, while giving customers across India a way to understand our products, learn about Lucky Gurbandi and find a retailer closer to home when they need smaller quantities.
The business remains rooted in Khari Baoli, with the same family behind it and the same focus on the products, people and relationships that built SS Lucky.
Three generations later, the business continues to move forward — with its roots firmly in Khari Baoli.
From a family connection to the Khari Baoli trade to the establishment of SS Lucky in 1992, and now into its third generation, the business has grown one generation at a time.
Late Mr. Sukha Singh Ji worked as a broker in the dry-fruit trade in Khari Baoli. Through his work in the market, he developed an understanding of Afghan nuts, dry fruits and the people who traded them. More importantly for the family story, it was through him that his son, Mr. Swaran Singh, was introduced to the market and the dry-fruit trade. This was the beginning of the family's connection to the business that would later become SS Lucky.
In 1992, Swaran Singh established SS Lucky as an independent trading business in Khari Baoli. Building on the knowledge of the market he had gained over the years, he began developing the business around sourcing, grading, sorting and supplying dry fruits and Afghan almonds to retailers. What started as a trading business grew through repeat orders and relationships built one retailer at a time.
As the business developed, SS Lucky introduced its own branded packaging at a time when much of the market was still sold in unbranded sacks. Giving the product a recognisable name made it easier for retailers and customers to identify what they were buying and return to it again. The business continued to develop its approach to grading, sorting and maintaining consistency across its products.
For years, SS Lucky grew in the traditional way of Khari Baoli. Retailers returned season after season. Customers came through recommendations. Relationships continued across generations. The business grew without relying on a large digital presence, with much of its work continuing through the relationships and reputation built within the trade.
The third generation is now actively involved in the family business. The foundations remain the same, but the way customers and retailers discover and interact with businesses has changed. The website is part of that next step — making SS Lucky easier to discover, easier for retailers to work with and easier for customers across India to understand and access. The business remains rooted in Khari Baoli. The next generation is simply taking it forward in a new way.
“The business has grown. The market has changed over three generations. The standards we built SS Lucky on have remained the same.”
Carefully selected Afghan Gurbandi almonds, known for their rich flavour, deep oil content and a character that has defined the category for over thirty years.

Cream-toned Afghan kernels with a soft, milky character — the household favourite that has driven the brand for decades.

Our largest, hand-selected Gurbandi kernels — superior size, deeper oil and a richer bite reserved for the connoisseur.

Naturally sweet Afghan Gurbandi kernels with a delicate, buttery finish — an accessible introduction to the Lucky standard.
The grading vocabulary the market now speaks — AB, KD, 5A through 15A — was shaped in part by this house. Each grade is sorted, sized and packed to the consistency our retailers have relied on for three decades.
Our nuts travel further than our marketing. Most of our retailers are family-run shops that aren't on Google Maps — but we know exactly where they are.

In a market where consistency is hard to guarantee, SS Lucky has held the same standard for thirty years. It is the only way we know to run a house this old.
Each consignment is hand-sorted and inspected against the grade standards we have built over three generations of trade.
Long-standing relationships with suppliers and trading partners across the regions we source from.
